THE TEEN EXPERIENCE

The Teen curriculum at E7 reflects the Bonding over Books philosophy:  Reading, rather than being a passive, isolating activity, should open the doors of communication and inspire one to create new art.  E7's Teen participants will not only engage in literary debates and discussions, but also create their own works across a variety of art forms.

Each participant age 13 - 17 has the option to stay on-campus in a gothic Penn dormitory on floors designated exclusively for Teens. Parents need not worry about the safety of teen-only accommodations as there are attendants at the entrance to the Quad as well as at the front desk 24 hours a day, and at least two E7 "Prefects" will reside on each floor as residence advisors.  The programming is demand driven -- activities and workshops will be selected based on interest shown during registration. Possibilities include:

Teen Quad
Advanced Fan FictionImagine and compose a new scene based on your favorite characters, then read it aloud to your peers during an open-mic session.

Comedy/Improv – Create a short improvisational comedy skit (here's your chance to comment on the fandom).

Podcast – Produce a podcast about your experience at E7 (taught by Andrew Sims, Ben Schoen and Jamie Lawrence of MuggleCast).

Design – Design your own castle for a new school of magic and create a brochure to market it to potential students and their parents.

Film –  Work with a group of peers to produce and direct your own unique cinematic vision of a favorite scene.
In addition to the workshops, Teens can also:
  • Compete in an Inter-House Pennitch tournament - E7's Wizard sport - to earn points towards winning the E7 House Cup (no previous experience required).
  • Share your theories and engage others in robust conversation in a fast-paced round of speed debating book discussions.

  • Enjoy Teen Socials -- with discussion groups, role-playing and other games -- led by the E7 Prefects in the Teen Dormitory common room each night after regular programming ends.

  • Work with Lauren Fairweather and Nina Jankowicz of The Moaning Myrtles to create an original E7 WIzard Rock song to be performed at the E7 Open House show Saturday evening.
  • Sketch your favorite magical subject in a Fan Art drawing workshop led by professional artist Tim Kirk.
  • Compete against other houses in the Quad-Wizard Family Tournament, where families must overcome physical, mental and social challenges in record-breaking time.
  • Attend a red-carpet, IMAX-3D showing of the film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, with a morning-after discussion of the film in the E7 Common Room.
  • Join in the many activities and games at E7 PremiereFest Friday evening, including a live podcast by MuggleCast and a Wizard Rock concert starring the Moaning Myrtles (see Family Experience page for more PremiereFest details).
